BEAT BULLYING PROJECT

BEAT BULLYING PROJECT RECEIVES AWARD click here for more info

We are the Frimley Green Youth Centre Beat Bullying group and we have all been involved in previous projects at FGYC. Our aim was to learn more about bullying so we could help others by creating a Beat Bullying workshop we could run in schools.

We were involved in many team building exercises, we attended FGYC once a week to learn more about bullying and we eventually went into School's to present a beat bullying workshop at an anti-bullying day in Tomlinscote School in June 2005 to different groups of year 7 students.

Before we went into Tomlinscote, we had a practice run with a group of Year 8 students. We did this to make sure our workshops worked well, and to see if we needed to improve anything before our Anti-Bullying day. This was really helpful as it gave us confident for doing the real thing, and gave us a taster of what the day would be like. On the day, we where obviously very nervous as it was all of ours first time to be a 'teacher for the day'. However, we over came our nerves and went in and taught all the workshops, ( nine in total ) very successfully to over 200 year 7 students.

We presented facts and information for the young people and helped them with creating role plays about bullying,  which included examples of where to go for help, what to do if your being bullied etc. We felt that everyone learnt a lot from our work at Tomlinscote and enjoyed the day.

Our main part of the training was taught to us at the residential. the location of the residential is called Avon Tyrrell and it is located near the New Forest. there, we had workshops where we where taught the effects of bullying and how to over come them. after that weekend we had a greater knowledge of bullying and we where able to help those that get bullied themselves.

Now we have visited the schools, we hope the bullies will think twice about bullying other students and the people getting bullied will have the confidence to come forward and ask for help.

Everyone in the group learned loads from being involved in this project and hopefully we were able to make a difference. We all achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Service Section Certificate and were nominated for the Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour for all our hard work!
