FGYC

Young People's Committee

Hi, we are the young people's committee, we consist of Todd Kipping, Laura Quinn, Jamie Carter, Karen Eggleton and Dan Burvill.

Here at FGYC  we get to express our feelings and opinions!

We having been meeting together as a group since the summer of 2005. In November 2005 we all attended a residential training weekend at Avon Tyrrell in the New Forest which was pretty cool. On the training weekend we learnt how to work better as a team doing lots of teambuilding activities including raft building and ropes course.

We also did workshops on bullying, dealing with conflict and how to run a drop-in for others which was our goal. Other training we have done back at FGYC to help us achieve or goal has been organising activities for others, and health & safety.

In January we achieved our goal and opened our first Drop-in for year 8/9's and the drop-in has been going well ever since and is now well used by young people in year 8 & 9. The year 8/9's can come in on a Thursday night (it's free) and chill out with their mates, play pool, sports stuff, dance mats and go on the computers. We always make sure there is lots for them to do.

We are all proud of what we are doing with the drop-in as it helps keep younger ones from just hanging around on the streets and stuff. We have all completed our Duke of Edinburgh award for getting this far.
